2017 Greenock Estate The Family Barrel Shiraz (Barossa Valley)
RRP $360 per case, $30 per bottle
Introducing The Family Barrel from Greenock Estate Wines, it's a new wine for us but the idea is old; as old in fact as the oldest vineyards in the Barossa Valley. The Family Barrel concept comes from the long-established tradition of the English aristocracy who would lay down a "pipe" of Port upon the birth of a child. Of course, not everyone will want to buy 24 dozen or more but do find space for at least a case of this fine Barossa gem. After all, if your family doesn't warrant the very best then who does?

The lees contact has enhanced the wine with richer characters of baked brioche and toasted hazelnuts. The palate is bright and vibrant with elements of granny smith apple and grapefruit as well as slightly richer notes of almond meal. The mousse has a beautifully creamy mouthfeel and the bead is fine. A balanced wine with Eden Valley elegance.
